January 3rd, 2020: Security Change and Family Trees
In order to make the wiki easier to use, I've changed the security settings. It's no longer hidden behind a username/password but does require an existing account to make edits.
I've also imported a (deprecated) Family Tree template set from Wikipedia which I think we might find useful not only for family trees, like the Martini Family Tree, but possibly also for doing branching skill flows, etc.
The import modified several existing templates so it's possible some pages might start generating errors. Let me know if you encounter any.

April 23, 2017: Host Move & Update
It's taken a while, but I've managed to move this wiki to a newer, faster, host and update it to a new version. I've also gone ahead and set it up in such a way that it should auto-update going forward.
The move and update did knock some sub-systems on the page out of correct behavior but I think I've got those all fixed now. I've disabled all the external extensions intended to handle security and instead put a simple password on the entire site. That should let the wiki run correctly and be easy to use for everyone while also keeping me from having to fight spam.
Please let me know if you encounter any issues. --Brian (talk) 19:03, 23 April 2017 (EDT)
April 23, 2015: Cite Extension Active
I've got the Cite Extension running. You can now use cite functions to include references on a page and have them collected at the bottom. Details on how to use these functions are built into the editor window too, under the Help links at the top. --Brian (talk) 20:39, 23 April 2015 (MDT)
March 16, 2015: Tales of Adventure
I've started work on Tales of Adventure and Mystery related pages for the Pulp 1920s Fate game I plan on running once Matt needs a (probably baby induced) break from GM duty. --Brian (talk) 11:32, 16 March 2015 (MDT)
August 25, 2014: Revenge of the Random Error
While working on a Super Villain game idea, I started encountering the random Forbidden error again. I've narrowed down a chunk of text that was triggering it and sent that to the server admins again, so hopefully they can get it fixed... again. --Brian (talk) 00:18, 26 August 2014 (MDT)
July 14, 2014: End of the Random 403 Error
Some of you may have noticed that sometimes when you tried to edit a page, you got a 403 Forbidden error, and would have to rework the page you had written in order to get around it. Very annoying. Well I was able to track down the source of this error, and had the admins that run the server fix it. We shouldn't be seeing any more 403 pages, but if you do, please let me know. --Brian (talk) 18:48, 14 July 2014 (MDT)
July 8, 2014: Temp Logo
I got tired of the temp-graphic put your logo here image, and have therefore replaced with a generic d12 graphic. --Brian (talk) 21:10, 8 July 2014 (MDT)
July 2, 2014: Hidden Namespace and PDFs
I've created a new namespace for the wiki that is concealed from non-players. The Hidden namespace, as in Hidden:Fractured Fate and the associated Hidden talk:Fractured Fate are restricted from view, but this only helps hide text. Images, templates, and other content is not protected.
I've also enabled PDFs for upload, although I'm a bit weary of how they work. In theory it should be possible to upload PDFs and access them through the wiki in much the same way images work. It could be helpful for custom game projects, or simply making setting documents available. Just please don't upload published files... as in things that would be illegal. --Brian (talk) 19:19, 2 July 2014 (MDT)
June 21, 2014: New Name?
The wiki is mostly up and running now. Images should be working again, I've tweaked the various setting so the wiki shouldn't be too slow or system intensive, and I think all the pages we want from the last version of the wiki have been imported.
I think it's time we find a new name for the wiki. The old wiki was Dicepit, and it was run on this server (under a different domain name). When we moved to Colin's server, we kept the same name, and ran into a lot of problems with people using old bookmarks or links. I eventually had to lock the original version of the wiki so people wouldn't keep editing the old wiki instead of the newer one. I'd like to avoid that problem this time around by renaming the wiki. We've imported all the old documents under the dicepit name, but I think it's possible to change that now... only I don't know what to call it. Anyone with an idea to share should add them to the [Talk:Latest_Updates|talk page]]. --Brian (talk) 20:38, 21 June 2014 (MDT)
June 10th, 2014: Restructuring the Main Page
On Matt's advice, I've started work on making the main page of the wiki a little less cluttered and out of date. Among the changes is the creation of this new post page. --Overlord (talk) 17:31, 10 June 2014 (MDT)
June 10th: Most Templates Fixed
Turns out the problem with the templates was a lack of Style Sheets and related Javascript that I had forgotten to import over. Most of the templates are now displaying correctly, although they continue to lack graphics in many cases.
Bad news is that I'm still unable to rebuild the link tables that will have the category pages populating correctly. --Overlord (talk) 10:32, 10 June 2014 (MDT)
June 10th, 2014: Talk Pages
I've moved over all the talk/discussion pages, and some of the user pages and sub-pages I had missed. We're still probably missing a few bits here and there, but I think we got most of the important stuff. --Overlord (talk) 09:40, 10 June 2014 (MDT)
June 9th. 2014: It Starts
This is a fresh install of the latest version of Mediawiki with a new clean database, but I didn't think we wanted to give up on all our old content, so I imported much of it. Most of the text content of the old wiki has been saved and moved, but the discussion/talk pages were not kept.
Most of the images are missing, and of those present, many are very wrong thanks to the wiki trying to be smarter that it needs to be. Similarly, many templates are missing or no longer working 100% correctly. I will probably need to replace a lot of those templates as I don't think they are compatible with this new install, and were site slowing overkill anyway.
Lastly, the links between pages are not yet working right (IE: The category pages are mostly empty) but I know how to fix it... once I'm sure I'm done bulk importing old content.
While user pages form the old wiki were kept intact, user accounts were not. You will need to register new accounts to use this wiki. Simply make your user name the same as your old one to "reclaim" your old pages. Simply having an account won't let you edit the wiki, you'll need an admin to add you to the Player user group to gain the ability to edit and create pages. --Brian (talk) 23:24, 9 June 2014 (MDT)
May 12, 2013: 90's SI Spin-Off Now Playing
I've started running Special Investigations: NightShift, the 1990s spin-off version of SI here in Ann Arbor. I'll try to post the episode synopsis for each one here on the Wiki so you can enjoy them. Sadly I didn't get a chance to record any quotes from the Pilot Episode. --Brian (talk) 07:25, 9 May 2013 (PDT)
May 19, 2012: May Lazy man's post-move update
Everything is working, just needed to install some other stuff on the host. Colin 01:10, 19 May 2012 (UTC)
April 1, 2012: Wiki is moved
Everything is working-ish. The main image on the left side isn't appearing due to what I believe is a thumbnailing issue and I'm not sure if image uploads are horibly broken right now. If they are, poop. If not, yay! Either way, if you find something that isn't working, please let me know. Colin 17:48, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
October 23, 2011: News Template
I've made a little nested set of template for displaying news/updates on the front page in a more reasonable manner.--Brian 01:55, 23 October 2011 (MDT)
October 23, 2011: Extra Guide Pages
I've added more details to the Category Templates page, and created a new Formatting Templates page that gives examples of various useful templates, including some of the ones imported from Wikipedia.--Brian 01:20, 23 October 2011 (MDT)
October 23, 2011: Template Improvements
I've imported a lot of useful, if complicated, Wikipedia templates and their associated help files. I've integrated them into some of the existing templates we already use and I hope the result is helpful. It has required a few changes, especial in the Special Investigations files as they were frequently not using the {{SI}} and/or being tagged {{World of Darkness}} resulting in double navigation bars.--Brian 01:20, 23 October 2011 (MDT)
August 22, 2011: Wiki Updated
The wiki has been updated to version 1.17, as have the needed extensions. I was (eventually) able to get the database upgraded so there shouldn't be any loss of data from the database. --Diceadmin 23:47, 22 August 2011 (MDT)
August 22, 2011: Loss of Images
The upgrade procces was not easy, and knowing it would invariably be worse than I expected I did a backup of the site before starting. As it turns out, my FTP program timed out on various files without informing. The result was the loss of just about all the images, and I got a new FTP program. The site still thinks they exist, but the files are gone.
The website is apparently displaying a red "empty" link for missing images (it seems also containing the image size?). If you clink on it, it will take you to a page where you can re-upload the missing file... if you can find it.
Alternatively, you can upload new files or just remove references to the lost images.
I haven't sat down and tried to get one of the recommended Clean Url options working, and I'm not sure I'll bother any time soon. That means you'll still see "index.php?title=Main_Page" and the like in your browser bar at the moment, and some of your bookmarks might not be working so great. Sorry about, but the solution I was using before has fallen out of favor because it generates needless server load... or something. --Diceadmin 23:47, 22 August 2011 (MDT)
