Character Creation
- Name: "Malc"
- Formerly known as "Malcorvin the Butcher"
- Race: Human
- Sex: Male
- Age: 57
- High Concept: Everyone's Favorite Traveling Merchant
History
Decades ago Malc was a warmage of no little infamy. He and his war-band committed their share of atrocities, but worst was the wholesale slaughter and sacrifice of the village of Karthan. He used the villagers of Karthan, or at least those that didn't put up much of a fight, to attempt a nasty ritual to tap a power nexus, and failed. The ritual imploded, killing nearly everyone present that hadn't already been sacrificed. Malc himself blacked out screaming from pain as the magic burned it's way outward from his warmage tattoos. He awoke hours later laid over the back of Raszi, who was wandering the main trade road. He was too injured to dismount the lizard himself and to this day is unsure how he ended up on the lizard's back, but he is sure that Raszi saved his life by reaching the trade road.
The magical backlash had burned him out, physically and spiritually, leaving him scarred and different. Malc survived the initial blast at the eye of the storm, but some of his magic focusing tattoos, and nearly all his ambition, where scoured clean by the magic, and his body was left with numerous burns and scars. More importantly, the world thought Malcorvin the Butcher was dead.
In the aftermath, he became a new man. He was discovered by a wandering merchant caravan that tended to his wounds, and eventually he became a merchant himself: traveling the world buying and selling goods where he can, and frequently finding the opportunity to improve the lives of those he encounters, something he wouldn't have done in his past life. More than two decades later, most people do not know his true past, and while many have heard of Malcorvin the Butcher, few think he still lives, let alone travels the countryside selling basic goods and reluctantly defending those in need. The only one that has stayed with him from his old life is his trusty mount, Raszi the war-lizard, and he seems just as content pulling a wagon then he ever did on the field of battle.
Widow
Malc was married in his old life to Viviana, an ice elemental of some power. He last saw his wife four days before the destruction of Karthan. In the aftermath he was officially declared dead, and due to the nature of his failure and destruction, his name fell into disgrace. That disgrace fell upon her as well. It took 5 years for her to claw out of that pariah status, but she eventually married the man who would become Duke Bannerhof of Ger, a vague rival of Malc in the old days.
Appearance
Malc is an older human, stout of size, and in good health and fitness for his age. His most distinctive feature are the old burn scars that cover patches of his body including part of his face, chest, back, shoulder, and arms. The failed power tap ritual left his hair prematurely white and his skin heavy scarred, but old age is responsible for the receding hair line and wrinkles.
He prefers simple utilitarian traveler's garments. He isn't shy about his burns, especially those on his face, but he doesn't like to show off the warmage tattoos, and so frequently wears gloves, and is unlikely to remove his tunic even when doing manual labor on a hot day.
Among his customers, Malc is known for his broad smile and ready laugh, a stark contrast to his grimly determined younger self. A self that has been known to partially resurface when Malc is angry, or magically manipulated.

Stunts
- (Racial) Magic Resistant: Once per session you may take a +2 bonus to Defend against a magical spell. If you wish to use this ability more than once you may spend a Fate point (as if it were an aspect).
- The Weight of Reputation: You can use Contacts instead of Provoke to make mental attacks based on the fear generated by the sinister reputation you’ve cultivated for yourself and all the shady associates you have. You should have an appropriate aspect to pair with this stunt.
- Leader of Dahune: You may use Rapport to create advantages such as "Following Orders," "Fighting as a Team," or "Squad Tactics" for minions under your command or allied named characters.
- Quick on the Draw: You can use Shoot instead of Notice to determine turn order in any physical conflict where shooting quickly would be useful.
- Called Shot: During a Shoot attack, spend a fate point and declare a specific condition you want to inflict on a target, like Shot in the Hand . If you succeed, you place that as a situation aspect on them in addition to hitting them for stress.
- Friendly Liar: Can use Rapport in place of Deceive to create advantages predicated on a lie.
- Lightning Bolt: Attack. Launch a lightning bolt at a target. This is a
Weapon:0attack but you can hit targets up to two zones away. - Chain Lightning: Your lightning bolt may now hit multiple targets in the same zone using standard rules.
- Charged Lightning: Charged Lightning increases the damage to
Weapon:1. - Overcharged Lightning: Overcharged Lightning requires you have purchased the Charged Lightning spell and increases the damage to Weapon:2.
- Light Armor (What's Left of my Warmage Tattoos): Costs 1 stunt, gives you Armor:1. Reinforced leather armor or a magical charm that protects against damage, such as an Aeromantic amulet that deflects incoming blows or a Geomantic belt that toughens your skin like rock upon impact.
- Lie Whisperer: +2 to all Empathy rolls made to discern or discover lies, whether they’re directed at you or someone else.
- Animal Companion (Raszi, my old war-lizard mount who now pulls the wagon): So it's not technically an item. You have an animal companion; it can help you do things. Pick the type of creature, name it; you may also take a small flock, pack, or host of creatures if they are small (such as mice or birds). The animals allow you to do something you couldn't do before (such as using crows to scout out a fortress, or having mice steal you a key); this still uses your skill roll however. If you spend a second stunt you gain the following bonus: once per scene the animal companion can create an advantage for you, no roll required, that you may tag once for free as usual.
- Animal Companion II: If you spend a second stunt you gain the following bonus: once per scene the animal companion can create an advantage for you, no roll required, that you may tag once for free as usual.
- Lightning Storm: You really like throwing lightning. Any time you're throwing a Lightning Bolt and succeed at a Shoot attack, you can automatically create a Fair (+2) opposition against movement in that zone until your next turn, because of all the lightning in the air. (Normally, you'd need to take a separate action to set up this kind of interference, but with the stunt, it's free.)
- Ride the Lightning: +2 Electromancy outdoor in Lightning Storm.
- Grounding: Immune to Lightning/Electricity.
- Boring Conversation Anyway: +2 to shoot first round after a conversation.
